Off-duty Penguins' AHL mascot helps rescue fallen elderly woman
The man who serves as the mascot for the Pittsburgh Penguins' AHL affiliate helped a woman who was badly injured after falling in a Pennsylvania state park.
Chad Spencer, who plays "Tux," the Wilkes-Barre Penguins' mascot, assisted a 76-year-old woman who fell off a trail while hiking in Ricketts Glen.
“She had taken a really bad gash to her head," Spencer told WNEP. "She probably has a broken leg and a hip maybe. She was complaining a lot of a lot of pain there."
Rescue crews took over an hour to reach them, so Spencer did his best to entertain her while they waited.
“All I did was just talk to her and told her stories and try to make her laugh and feel at ease as much as I could, and that's funny because that's my job," he said. "It's kind of what I do. I'm hoping she's okay."
The Penguins recognized Spencer for his efforts:
