Ducks' Clayton Stoner charged with unlawful grizzly hunt

Anaheim Ducks defenseman Clayton Stoner is facing five charges under the Wildlife Act in his home province of British Columbia for his part in the illegal hunting and capture of a well-known grizzly bear, the Vancouver Sun's Larry Pynn reports.

Stoner's charges include hunting without a license, making false statements to obtain a license, hunting out of season, and one count of unlawful possession of dead wildlife stemming from an incident in May 2013.

He's scheduled to appear in a Vancouver provincial court Oct. 9 - the eve of Anaheim's season-opening game.

The bear, known as Cheeky, is said to have been "beloved" by First Nations people located on the province's central coast.
