Islanders' Ho-Sang sent back to OHL after reportedly arriving late to training camp
Training camp didn't last long for New York Islanders prospect Joshua Ho-Sang.
The 19-year-old reportedly arrived late and was sent back to the OHL's Niagara Ice Dogs, effectively ending his bid to make the NHL club this season, according to Arthur Staple of Newsday.
Ho-Sang attended the Isles' prospect camp in July and had been at the extended prospect camp which began a week ago, working alongside fellow elite prospects Michael Dal Colle, Mathew Barzal and Ryan Pulock. Sources said Ho-Sang's behavior throughout his time on the Island this summer had been exemplary.
Jack Capuano had Ho-Sang working on a training-camp line with John Tavares and Anders Lee.
After selecting him with the 28th overall pick in 2014, general manager Garth Snow said the youngster "probably has the most talent of anyone in that entire draft." The Islanders listed him as their fourth-best prospect heading into the season, while Ho-Sang said he'd been taking steps to improve his game in an attempt to make the team.
"I feel like I've made a lot of improvements in my game, especially on the defensive side," he said. "That's definitely what New York told me to focus on, working on a full-ice game, especially coming out of my zone and being more accountable defensively."
It's off the ice, however, where the Islanders appear intent on holding him accountable, certainly sending a strong message with this decision.
Ho-Sang, who called his omission from Canada's 2015 junior team "insulting," recorded 14 goals and 48 assists in 49 OHL games last season.
