Volpatti indicated that he will most likely be bound for retirement as a result of the neck injury that limited him last season, Alex Prewitt of the Washington Post reports.
Analysis:
Volpatti underwent spinal fusion surgery last September and was sidelined for about five months while recovering. While he was able to appear in a few games at the AHL and NHL level after returning, Volpatti said his range of motion was too compromised for him to play at a high level. The 30-year-old will turn his focus to building his family, as his wife is pregnant with the couple's first child.
