Kane says he's focused on hockey as sexual assault investigation continues
Patrick Kane decided to once again address the media on Saturday, following a series of bizarre developments surrounding allegations of an alleged sexual assault.
Speaking ahead of Saturday's preseason game against the St. Louis Blues, the Chicago Blackhawks' star forward reiterated that his focus remains on getting ready for the regular season.
"I don’t really have anything to say about what transpired over the past 72 hours," Kane told reporters, according to Chris Hine of the Chicago Tribune. "My focus is here on the game tonight ... There’s still plenty of things going on away from the rink that keep your attention, but when I’m here in this locker room, on the rink that’s what I’m focused on."
Recent developments into the ongoing investigation of the allegations include:
- Claims made by the complainant's lawyer that a rape kit bag was anonymously delivered to the accuser's mother.
- The withdrawal of that same lawyer from the case amid 'misrepresentations' over said evidence bag.
- A firm statement from the country prosecutor saying accuser's mother lied about the rape kit bag, while making it clear that evidence had not tampered with.
Kane also stood by the statements he made earlier in training camp, maintaining a belief that he will be absolved of any wrongdoing.
"Obviously I believe what I said and I think that’s been reiterated many times by not only myself but my lawyer as well," he said, "but what’s going to actually happen is just speculation. I don’t know what comes next."
Kane also took the opportunity to express his thanks to those who have stood by him.
"The fans have been great. My family has been awesome. My girlfriend has been great. And especially the Blackhawks organization as well. Everyone has stuck with me through the whole thing."
Kane has not been charged with any crime, and it's yet to bet determined if and when the case will be presented to a grand jury.
