The Ottawa Senators have officially signed defenseman Mark Fraser.
The two sides agreed to a one-year, two-way contract Monday that will pay Fraser an NHL rate of $800,000 and an AHL salary of $125,000.
"We felt there was an opportunity with Mark to bring in veteran player that is known for his character and leadership, and who has also proven he can contribute at the NHL level," Senators general manager Bryan Murray said.
"He is a competitive, professional guy who provides the organization greater depth and flexibility on defense," Murray added.
The Toronto Maple Leafs released the 28-year-old from his professional tryout contract earlier Monday.
Fraser played 34 games with the New Jersey Devils last season, collecting four assists. He was a third-round pick of the club in 2005.
The blue-liner has played 219 career games for the Devils, Maple Leafs and Edmonton Oilers.
