Former Blackhawks goalie Raanta's name isn't on the Stanley Cup

After acting as the team's backup goalie for parts of the 2014-15 season, former Chicago Blackhawks goaltender Antti Raanta was not among those to see his name engraved on the Stanley Cup when it was unveiled Sunday.

The team gets to choose the names for the trophy and the league only checks that they meet the requirements, an NHL spokesman told Mark Lazerus of the Chicago Sun-Times.

Those requirements include appearing in at least 41 regular-season games or one game in the Stanley Cup Final.

Raanta only played in 14 games for the Blackhawks. Scott Darling, whose name is on the Cup, played in only 14 regular-season games, but dressed as a backup for all six games of the final.

In early September, a Finnish newspaper quoted Raanta as saying he'd wished the Blackhawks had been swept in the first round of the playoffs.

The Blackhawks successfully petitioned to have forwards Daniel Carcillo and Joakim Nordstrom included on the trophy, even though they didn't meet the 41-game requirement.

Although his name does not appear on the Stanley Cup, Raanta was still granted his day with the league's crown jewel.
