Analysis:

Helm's IR stint will be retroactive to Sept. 18, so he'll be eligible to return whenever he becomes healthy. The Red Wings will likely keep a couple extra guys around early in the season to account for injuries, but Helm shouldn't be in danger of losing a roster spot.
