The Boston Bruins placed defenseman Matt Irwin on waivers Sunday.
Irwin, 27, dressed in the club's first two games and was held pointless with a minus-5 rating.
The move could have been made to free up space for captain Zdeno Chara on defense. Chara skated alongside Kevan Miller at Sunday's practice, according to Comcast Sportsnet's Joe Haggerty.
Chara has been sidelined with an upper-body injury to start the season, and remains "questionable" for Monday's game against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
