Justin Williams scored his first goal as a Capital to put his team up 6-3, ending Nilsson's night after he faced just 17 shots.
Cam Talbot entered in his place.
Kuznetsov netted his first two goals of the season, while Nicklas Backstrom, Marcus Johansson, and Andre Burakovsky also chipped in for Washington.
