The struggling Anaheim Ducks have been dealt a huge blow ahead of their tilt with one of the NHL's highest-scoring teams.
Ryan Getzlaf is out with appendicitis Tuesday against the Dallas Stars and is set for surgery that's expected to keep him out for 4-12 days.
The 30-year-old forward has 679 points in 718 career games, but has floundered early this season with just one assist in eight games.
The Ducks have scored only six goals in eight games, struggling out of the gate with a surprising 1-5-2 record after reaching the Western Conference Final last season.
