Boston Bruins center Chris Kelly will miss the next six-to-eight months after suffering a fractured left femur during the first period of Tuesday's game against the Dallas Stars.
Kelly fell awkwardly while trying to play the puck near the benches, and had to be helped off the ice.
In a statement released prior to the conclusion of Tuesday's game, general manager Don Sweeney announced the severity of the injury, and that Kelly will undergo surgery Wednesday.
Kelly, who turns 35 on Nov. 11, scored two goals in 11 games this season, while largely playing a fourth-line role.
