Blues' Elliott 'run over pretty good' in wild 1st

It was a bananas first period in Chicago between the Blackhawks and St. Louis Blues on Wednesday night.

Four goals were exchanged in the game's first 6:35, Chicago up 3-1 at the time, when Blues starting goaltender Brian Elliott was summoned to the bench by head coach Ken Hitchcock.

Jake Allen took over in the crease, but ever so briefly. Elliott stood on the bench next to Hitchcock, they had a conversation, and Elliott was sent back on the ice.

The Blues cut the lead to 3-2 at 15:12 of the first, but Brent Seabrook made it 4-2 at 17:09. At 17:44, David Backes was called for interfering with Jonathan Toews in the Blues' zone, the play resulting in a collision that - again - forced Elliott from the game.

Allen took over once more, this time seemingly for some real action, and the Blackhawks scored on him promptly, eight seconds into the Backes minor, to make it 5-2.

Elliott stopped 11 of 15 shots he faced, and did not start the second period on the bench with his teammates. He was "run over pretty good," Hitchcock said after the game, and suffered a head injury. He'll be re-evaluated Thursday.

The Blues didn't quit Wednesday. They scored three times in the second period and won 6-5 in overtime after Vladimir Tarasenko fired one past Corey Crawford. It was Tarasenko's seventh goal - and second game-winner - of the season.

Allen ended up having himself a night. He stopped 27 of 28 to earn the win.
