Canadiens place Semin on waivers

The Montreal Canadiens placed forward Alex Semin on waivers Monday, according to multiple reports.

Semin was signed to a one-year deal worth $1.1 million in the offseason, but only drew into 15 games. He has a goal and three assists.

A one-time 40-goal scorer, Semin enjoyed his most fruitful years with the Washington Capitals. He scored 20 or more goals in six straight seasons beginning in 2006-07, and is only two years removed from a 22-goal, 20-assist season in 65 games with the Carolina Hurricanes.
