Sharks' Smith on waivers; is Torres return imminent?

The San Jose Sharks didn't need to shed a body to reintroduce Raffi Torres, but they're in the process of clearing a spot anyway.
Ben Smith was placed on waivers Wednesday with the expectation he'll be assigned to the club's AHL affiliate.
He's had a tough season: He's without a point in six appearances, missing time with a concussion.
Torres, who served his 41-game suspension for a preseason headshot on Jakob Slifverberg, was recently called up after two appearances for the San Jose Barracuda.
Smith's demotion will also free up cap space.
