Canadiens trade Weise, Fleischmann to Blackhawks
The Chicago Blackhawks continue to load up for another Stanley Cup run.
The club has acquired forwards Dale Weise and Tomas Fleischmann from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for forward Phillip Danault and a second-round pick in 2018.
The Canadiens will retain 30 percent of Weise's salary, putting them right up close to the salary cap limit pending further moves.
For Montreal's part, general manager Marc Bergevin is well aware of what the Canadiens will be getting in Danault.
"Danault is a young and gifted player who will be part of our core group of young forwards for many years to come," he said. "I am very pleased to have him join our organization. As a member of the Blackhawks management group, I was instrumental in the selection of Phillip in the first round of the 2011 NHL Draft.
"Dale Weise and Tomas Fleischmann have both been good contributors to our team and I would like to wish them the best of luck with the Blackhawks' organization."
The pair of forwards seem primed for a great chance at winning a Cup in Chicago, especially after the Blackhawks added Andrew Ladd and Christian Ehrhoff in advance of the NHL's trade deadline.
