Jets' Myers out for season with knee, hip injuries

Tyler Myers' season is finished.

The Winnipeg Jets defenseman underwent knee surgery Thursday, and will also undergo hip surgery which will include a 16-to-20 week recovery, the team announced.

According to head coach Paul Maurice, the plan was for Myers to have hip surgery at season's end, but his knee got to a point where surgery was necessary. Since Myers needs his knee to help rehab his hip, the knee surgery had to be done first.

The team elected to have Myers undergo the knee operation immediately so that his recovery from the forthcoming hip procedure won't run into next season's training camp.

Maurice said the hip issue is something Myers has been playing through for a number of years, but had reached a point where doctors suggested he have it operated on.

The 26-year-old will miss Saturday's anticipated return to Buffalo, where he began his career.

Myers had appeared in all of his club's 73 games this season, posting nine goals and 27 points.
