The Montreal Canadiens have placed backup goalie Ben Scrivens on waivers, the team announced Wednesday.
The move comes following the signing of college free agent Charlie Lindgren who has joined the team in Tampa.
Scrivens had been with the team on emergency basis since joining following a trade from the Edmonton Oilers on Dec. 28, according to Sportsnet's Eric Engels. He went 5-8-0 in 14 games with the Canadiens.
The 29-year-old will be assigned to the St. John's IceCaps of the American Hockey League if he isn't claimed, while the newly acquired Lindgren will burn the first year of his contract.
