After helping her team pull off consecutive blowout victories to start the tournament, Team USA center Brittney Griner is yearning for some tougher competition.
"I would love to just go out there and play against (DeMarcus Cousins)," Griner told Sam Amick of USA TODAY Sports. "We talk a lot of crap to each other. I love talking to him. He's really funny. I would love to just go out there and play against him."
Griner and Cousins have hit it off over the last week in Rio, exchanging playful jabs at one another on the team's private cruise ship.
"I've never really been around him before until now, but he's like that big brother, just to talk smack to and who is always competitive," Griner said. "He's awesome."
Not one to back down from any competition, Cousins is more than ready for a potential one-on-one matchup with the 6-foot-9 Griner.
"Whenever you're ready to get it on camera and see her get embarrassed, I'm ready for it," Cousins joked.
While Cousins eventually praised Griner for her impressive post moves, he noted that it will take a lot to beat a player of his caliber.
"She's got some footwork, but I'm top dog," he said. "I told her she's the third-best post player here behind me and DJ (DeAndre Jordan). She's a little mad about that."
