The boisterous Brazilian crowd at Olympic Stadium continued its assault on Renaud Lavillenie on Tuesday, bringing the French pole vaulter to tears as he received his silver medal to a symphony of boos.
Lavillenie lashed out at the crowd the night before when he was stunned by homegrown vaulter Thiago Braz Da Silva, who had whipped the fans into a frenzy with his exceptional performance.
"I was showing to people we are not in a football stadium," he said Monday after the upset. "Track and field has no place for that."

The crowd persisted with its jeers at the medal ceremony until Braz da Silva and American bronze medalist Sam Kendricks' gestures to stop were finally heard.
