Report: Lochte fabricated story; video shows a U.S. swimmer fighting security guard
Ryan Lochte's story seems to be unraveling faster than Usain Bolt running the 100m.
Lochte initially claimed that a taxi carrying him and three of his U.S. Olympic swimming teammates was pulled over and robbed at gunpoint in Rio on Sunday by thieves posing as police. After a Brazilian judge found discrepancies between Lochte's version of the events and teammate James Feigen's account, Lochte altered the story Wednesday, telling NBC's Matt Lauer the robbery occurred at a gas station after his party had asked to stop to use the bathroom.
Brazilian police say they've obtained video showing one member of the U.S. swim team breaking down a bathroom door at the gas station and fighting with a security guard, ABC's T.J. Holmes reported Thursday.
The robbery story is fabricated, Brazilian sources told ABC News' Matt Gutman.
Local police also told ABC News that Lochte and his teammates were too drunk to give accurate descriptions of their supposed robbers or say how many there were.
Lochte also initially claimed a gun was held to his head, then later backed off that assertion and said a gun was merely pointed in his direction.
Lochte left Brazil earlier this week. While attempting to leave the country, fellow swimmers Gunnar Bentz and Jack Conger were taken off their plane to be further questioned by police Wednesday. They're still in Brazil, along with Feigen.
