Canada protests call in Olympic qualifier vs. USA
Canada is protesting Friday's 10-1 loss to the United States in the Baseball Americas Qualifier after a controversial call by the umpires.
With American Logan Forsythe on first base in the eighth inning, Triston Casas hit what initially looked like a home run but was ultimately ruled a double after review.
Triston Casas just hit a ball that landed on the top of the right-field wall. Looks like it got stuck somehow to the top of the wall (maybe jammed in by the railing).

Normally, the runner on first base wouldn't be permitted to score on the play with it being a double instead of a home run, but Forsythe wasn't called back alongside Casas to extend Team USA's lead.
Canadian manager Ernie Whitt protested, and three umpires left the field with a tournament official. The game was delayed for about 25 minutes before the call was upheld and play resumed.
After 3 umps left the field with a tournament official for a loooong time, the run is allowed, Canada playing under protest, and after a 25 min delay, poor Chris Leroux is taken out of the game. Lots of grumpy people on both sides. https://t.co/aK6oOPgHlj

Canada needed to win Friday's contest to earn a spot in the Tokyo Olympics.
