World record holder Summer McIntosh took gold in the women's 400m individual medley Monday, marking the first gold medal of the 17-year-old Canadian's Olympic career.
It's McIntosh's second medal in Paris following a silver in the 400m freestyle Saturday.
Americans Katie Grimes and Emma Weyant earned silver and bronze, respectively, in Monday's event.
McIntosh finished the event in a time of 4:27.71, roughly two seconds off her own world record but nearly six seconds ahead of Grimes' silver-medal time.
McIntosh is set to compete in four individual events in Paris, with the 200m individual medley and 200m butterfly set to go later this week. She is also expected to participate as a member of Canada's relay teams.
