China shocks U.S. for medley relay title, Dressel gets 1st non-gold medal

U.S. swimming star Caeleb Dressel earned his 10th Olympic medal on Sunday as part of his country's men's 4x100m medley relay team, but it was his first medal that wasn't gold.

In the final day of swimming medals, the U.S. team of Dressel, Ryan Murphy, Hunter Armstrong, and Nic Fink were upset by China and finished with silver. It was the first loss in the event for the Americans in the last 11 Summer Olympics.

China's anchor Pan Zhanle surged past France's Florent Manaudou and held off Armstrong in the last 50 meters of the relay, swimming his leg in under 46 seconds. France's relay team, consisting of breakout star Leon Marchand, rounded out the podium with bronze.

Dressel's 10th Olympic medal and first non-gold leaves him tied for second on the all-time gold medals list among Americans behind Michael Phelps' 23 golds. Dressel previously won gold in the men's 4x100m freestyle relay and the mixed 4x100m medley relay in Paris.
