Vonn crashes in super-G race but escapes injury: 'My knees are good'

American skier Lindsey Vonn crashed during a World Cup super-G race Sunday in Val d'Isere, France, but wasn't seriously hurt. 

Vonn was aiming for her record-tying 62nd win and a fourth straight podium finish, but a tight turn caused her to slide off course. She was on her back for a few moments before getting up, much to the relief of the crowd. 

"I was a little bit tired," Vonn said after the race. "(Saturday) was a very long day. It takes a lot of energy to be going all day. I thought I skied pretty well on the top section.

"I was on the limit and hit some softer snow and lost a little bit of elevation, and then I wasn't able to make the gate. The most important thing is my knees are good." 

Vonn's coming off surgery and was looking to tie Austria's Annemarie Moser-Proll's record of 62 World Cup wins. 

"I'm still happy. I skied well, I skied aggressively," Vonn said. "I'm still going home for a Christmas with a very big smile."

Vonn's also going home with a cow, which she won Saturday. 

Austria's Elisabeth Goergl won Sunday's race. Slovenia's Tina Maze finished third, and leads the overall standings with 656 points. Vonn is third with 312.
