Who is Smylie Kaufman and how did he get here?
Smylie Kaufman is just 24 years old and he's on one of the biggest stages in all of golf - playing in the final pairing at the Masters with defending champion Jordan Spieth.
But who exactly is this guy?
His full name is Carter Smylie Kaufman. The name Smylie came from his grandmother's cousin, Smylie Gebhart - who was an All-American defensive end at Georgia Tech.
Gebhart suffered a freak accident when a slipped disk ruptured his spinal cord, rendering him a quadriplegic. He died at age 51.
Kaufman's father vowed that if he ever had a son, his name was going to be Smylie.
There's much more to Kaufman than just his name, though. He graduated from LSU and finished sixth on the Web.com Tour money list in 2015, which secured his PGA Tour card for 2015-16.
Kaufman went to work quickly, winning the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open in October in which he shot a final-round 61. The win got him an invitation to Augusta.
The Masters is his second major, after he missed the cut at the 2014 U.S. Open at Pinehurst. While you would think a top 50 golfer in the world is living the life of luxury, he still lives at home with his parents.
So, how does a Masters rookie play so well at a course that requires so much knowledge? From playing the Tiger Woods PGA Tour video game, of course.
