If it were up to Matt Kuchar, golfing at the Olympics would feature a team format.

Instead, to the surprise of Kuchar, the competition will be decided by stroke play.

The PGA pro, who was a late addition to the U.S. Olympic team, admitted he was unaware of the format during his meeting with the media where he was forced to ask the embarrassing question.

"Now, I may be misinformed or just don't know. You may have to help me. Is there no team format at all?" he asked reporters.

Despite the format being announced seven years ago, Kuchar defended his assumption by saying he expected the Olympics to adopt the same team format used at the World Cup: "That was my initial impression of what was happening with the Olympics, but I'm incorrect on that."

Let's hope someone's let the cat out of the bag that the tournament tees off Aug. 11.
