The Augusta legend that is Jeff Knox

When Jason Day bogeyed the 18th hole Friday evening, he became the last person to post a 6-over par for the tournament, and thus would be the first player to tee off Saturday morning.

However, with 53 players making the cut, and the tournament chairman insisting that competitors play in a twosome on the weekend, Day is playing with Jeff Knox.

Jeff who? It's Jeff Knox, a Masters legend.

Knox has played this role of official marker before. Last year he played with two-time Masters champion Bubba Watson, and in 2014, the Augusta member beat Rory McIlroy.

McIlroy was the world No. 1 at the time and finished that year with two major championships, so Knox won't be timid playing with world No. 3 Jason Day.

"He obviously knows this place so well and gets it round. I don't think I've ever seen anyone putt the greens as well as he does around here," McIlroy told golf.com after his 2014 round with Knox.

The Northern Irishman isn't the only one who's aware of his skills on the infamous greens at Augusta, Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson have also sought out advice from Knox.

The 54-year-old holds the course record of 61 from the members tees at Augusta National, and was recently inducted into the Georgia Golf Hall of Fame.

Fifty-three players and Jeff Knox, it's becoming a tradition unlike any other at the Masters.
