Jacksonville University claimed the final spot in the Baton Rouge regional Wednesday to advance to the NCAA Championships, but how the Dolphins got there was amazing.
On the 13th hole, David Wicks marked his ball on the putting surface, then accidentally dropped the ball into the water hazard beside the green.
Since the rules of golf state that a player must finish with the same ball he started the hole with, the senior stripped down and jumped into the water to search for the ball.
Unfortunately, he was unable to find the ball within the five-minute limit, and was penalized two shots, turning his par into a double-bogey. The Englishman would rebound to par the last five holes and help his team into a sudden-death playoff with Northwestern, which they would ultimately win.
"I was determined to redeem myself," Wicks told the Golf Channel. "I was worried that everyone would remember my college career as the guy who lost us a spot at nationals. That wasn't the way I was going to go out."
I have seen some wildlife in that lake in my days at LSU. I would have recommended he just take the 2 shot dinger 🐍#nutriarat https://t.co/2VbWvSGTwJ
