Hoffman overheard at WGC-Bridgestone: 'I'm tired of finishing 2nd'
There was no way Charley Hoffman was going to play it safe late in his round Sunday at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational.
Hoffman, who lost in playoffs last week in Canada, trailed Hideki Matsuyama by three shots when he stood on the par-5 16th tee box. The 40-year-old smashed his tee shot well down the fairway, but he still had 282 yards left into the green.
That's when Hoffman and his looper, Brett Waldman, had one of the best player-caddie discussions in determining the proper play.
"I'm three back with three to play. I mean, I'm trying to win a golf tournament, I'm tired of finishing second," Hoffman told Waldman before electing to go for the green in two.
Hoffman's second shot finished just behind green, but would only make a par on the hole.
