Report: McIlroy will defend FedEx Cup title
It appears Rory McIlroy's 2017 season isn't over after all.
McIlroy hinted after last week's PGA Championship that he might skip the FedEx Cup playoffs in an attempt to heal a nagging rib injury that's plagued him all season long.
The Northern Irishman said he would go back home after Quail Hollow for treatment and advice from sports scientist Steve McGregor before making his decision. On Friday, it appeared McIlroy has elected to tee it up, tweeting details of a contest to play with him in the pro-am before next month's BMW Championship, which is the third of four tournaments in the playoffs.
The 28-year-old's management group reportedly confirmed to the BBC that McIlroy aims to play in the series, which begins next week with the Northern Trust on Long Island.
McIlroy sits in 41st place in the standings, and needs to play himself into the top 30 in order to qualify for the season-ending Tour Championship in late September.
