Tiger Woods hasn't been seen on a golf course since undergoing back surgery in April, but he'll be roaming the fairways at Liberty National as an assistant in late September.
Woods, who fulfilled vice captain duties for Davis Love III at last year's Ryder Cup, will do the same for U.S. captain Steve Stricker at the Presidents Cup in New Jersey.
"It will be good to have him there. Guys are looking forward to it and I know he’s looking forward to it as well," Stricker told Rex Hoggard of the Golf Channel. "He wants to get back in the mix, and I know he’s itching to get back out here, and this will be a first step for him."
Stricker was worried the 41-year-old would not be able to attend after the surgery and his DUI arrest in May, but Woods reassured the captain he's feeling up to the task of retaining the trophy.
"I talked to him a few times, just to make sure he’s good and still coming (to the Presidents Cup)," said Stricker. "A couple of months ago, he wasn’t feeling well enough to come, now, he is, he said."
Woods was a part of eight U.S. Presidents Cup teams as a player, but hasn't participated in the event since 2013, when he went 4-1-0 in five matches.
