Sunday Showdown: Reliving the DJ-Spieth tilt at The Northern Trust
Sunday certainly lived up to the hype at The Northern Trust.
Dustin Johnson and Jordan Spieth put on a show for the fans in Long Island, N.Y., with Johnson eventually winning on the first playoff hole
Here's how the round unfolded:
Act I
Spieth came into Sunday with a three-shot lead over Johnson and opened with two routine pars to maintain his advantage. The world No. 3 then birdied the par-5 third hole and brushed home a 28-foot putt for another birdie at the fifth to lead by five.

Jordan Spieth | -14 |
Dustin Johnson | -9 |
Act II
The turning point of the tournament came one hole after Spieth's birdie at No. 5, when his tee shot at the par-3 sixth found the water, leading to a double-bogey. After both players parred holes 7 and 8, another two-shot swing came at the par-4 ninth where Spieth bogeyed and Johnson holed his first birdie of the day. Spieth's lead was soon gone, thanks to stress-free birdie at the par-4 10th by the world No. 1.

Act III
With both players sitting at 11-under par, the final stretch turned into a match-play showdown. Spieth struck first at the par-4 14th, holing an 8-foot birdie putt to regain the lead. Johnson didn't roll over, however, and punched back at the par-3 15th with birdie of his own to square the match. With both sitting at 13-under on the 72nd hole, Spieth appeared to have the upper hand as Johnson needed to sink a 17-foot par putt just to force a playoff - which he did.

He would take advantage of the drive, wedging his second shot to a couple of feet and tapping in for his fourth win of the 2017 season.
