Bubba torches TPC River Highlands with 7-under 63 in Round 2
Bubba Watson lit up TPC River Highlands on Friday, firing a 7-under 63 in second-round action of the Travelers Championship.
It's the fourth 63 or better for Bubba at the Hartford-area track, a major factor why he's a two-time winner of the event.
After shooting even par in Round 1, Watson recorded an eagle and six birdies Friday to gain over six strokes total on the field.
Watson's playing partners Rory McIlroy (-7) and Justin Thomas (-5) will be in contention on the weekend after they both shot 1-under 69s in Round 2.
McIlroy had a chance to create a commanding lead after shooting 7-under Thursday, but failed to carry momentum into his second round.
Jordan Spieth (-4) - who co-led entering Round 2 - carded a disappointing 3-over 73. Spieth was put in danger of missing the cut after making a triple-bogey on his fourth hole of the day, but rebounded on his second nine to secure a tee time on Saturday.
Brian Harman holds the early clubhouse lead at 10-under, after shooting 64-66 in the opening two rounds.
