Tiger recounts shocking pizza slice denial: 'We were starving'
A hungry Tiger Woods was searching for anything - even pizza - to tide him over Wednesday morning at the Farmers Insurance Open Pro-Am. But when he approached the Italian cuisine stand on the first tee, he was stunningly denied.
"We were looking for anything, we were starving," Woods said, according to Golf Channel's Rex Hoggard. "(Caddie Joe LaCava) didn't put any sandwiches in the bag, didn't have any bars, so we were all hungry."
Woods - arguably the fittest golfer on Tour - was filmed being turned away while looking for an early-morning slice. The video posted by local San Diego reporter Brandon Stone was removed at the request of the PGA Tour but can still be viewed here.
"A couple guys in the group were offering $20 for a box of pizza and we didn't get any, so that's the way it goes," Woods added. "They were filling out paperwork at the time to be able to (serve) and we were the first ones through, so I don't know."
