Kevin Kisner defeated Matt Kuchar in the final of the WGC-Match Play to capture his first career World Golf Championships event.

After a 1-up win in the semifinal round over Francesco Molinari on Sunday morning, Kisner followed up with a 3 and 2 victory in the final for his third career PGA Tour victory.

He got off to a great start with a birdie on the opening hole to take an early 1-up lead. After giving up the advantage with a bogey on five, Kisner responded with birdies on six and seven to go 2-up. Holding a 3-up lead with three holes to play, Kisner sunk a 20-foot putt for birdie on 16 to close it out.

After falling to Bubba Watson in last year's championship match, the 35-year-old became the fifth golfer in the history of the event to make consecutive finals appearances, and the first to claim the title after posting a runner-up finish the previous year.

Kisner entered the competition seeded 48th in the field, becoming the lowest-seeded player to win the event since Geoff Ogilvy (52) in 2006.

After losing to Kisner in the fourth round last year, Kuchar was denied his revenge this time around.

Molinari defeated Lucas Bjerregaard in the consolation round to finish third.
