Report: Woods, McIlroy playing skins event in Japan

Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy will headline a skins game event scheduled for Oct. 21 at Accordia Golf Narashino Country Club in Japan, a source told ESPN's Bob Harig.

The one-day competition will also feature Jason Day and Hideki Matsuyama and take place a few days before the start of the PGA Tour's newest stop, the Zozo Championship.

Though the contest's format and reportedly lucrative prize money are yet to be determined, it is known the PGA Tour will sanction the exhibition match, according to Harig.

After the success of "The Match: Tiger vs. Phil," rumblings about a series of head-to-head matches surfaced in early April. Woods has an agreement with GolfTV to produce exclusive content for the online streaming service, and this skins event would satisfy those requirements.

GolfTV - which holds PGA Tour broadcasting rights - is not available in the U.S., but there are negotiations to have the skins event televised to the American market, according to Harig.

Woods committed to the Zozo Championship in April. Mark Steinberg, Tiger's agent, alluded to the fact his client would also play a series of matches in Asia later this year.

Tiger is skipping the upcoming WGC-FedEx St. Jude next week but does plan to play all three FedEx Cup playoff events to conclude the 2019-20 PGA Tour season.
