Lightning strikes injure 6 fans during weather delay at Tour Championship

Two lightning strikes at East Lake Golf Club injured six fans during suspended play at the Tour Championship on Saturday, the PGA Tour announced.

The six injured were tended to immediately and five were taken to hospital. The injuries don't appear to be life-threatening based on the latest report from the Tour.

Four people were injured from debris after one of the lightning strikes hit a tree near the 16th tee.

The two others injured were ejected out of a nearby golf cart from the force of the lightning, NBC's Mike Tirico said on the live broadcast.

Weather halted Round 3 at 4:17 p.m. ET. Players and caddies were removed from the course at that time, and fans were encouraged to seek shelter.

The weather delay is the second in as many days at East Lake Golf Club. The leaders teed off at 3:20 p.m. ET on Saturday and only played five holes before the third round was postponed until Sunday.
