Feherty stunned by Reed's actions: 'He's Captain Oblivious'
Golf commentator David Feherty is known for always having something witty to say. But ask him to describe Patrick Reed in one word and he'll be stumped.
"Jesus. You can put that in there actually. Just Jesus. I mean, I don't even know what to say," Feherty said to Sports Illustrated's Ryan Asselta. "It's just, it's going to follow him for the rest of his life."
The "it's" Feherty is referring to the oft-discussed sand-sweeping incident involving Reed at the Bahamas in December.
"'There is no God' was the first thing I said after he'd won last week. There is no God, you know, that's proof of it right there," Feherty added. "Amazing. I mean, he is amazing. He's Captain Oblivious, just can let everything run off his back. I've never seen anything like it."
Reed won the WGC-Mexico Championship days after both Brooks Koepka and former CBS employee Peter Kostis revived the controversy. Koepka said Reed cheated and was "building sandcastles," while Kostis admitted to witnessing Reed pull off similar lie-improving stunts multiple times as a broadcaster.
Kostis also revealed details about his time on-air and how he was often forced to keep quiet about certain topics, such as witnessing a rules infraction.
Feherty described how he would handle the situation.
"Yes. You definitely do (say something). Not necessarily on the air, but I mean, you point that out to your producer for sure. Tell them that you saw something happen and then, it's kind of the producer’s decision."
