Greenbrier event permanently removed from PGA Tour schedule
The PGA Tour permanently removed its event at The Greenbrier Resort from future schedules after a 10-year run on the calendar, it announced on Thursday.
The decision to mutually terminate the contract that extended until 2026 comes after A Military Tribute at The Greenbrier was not included in the 2020-21 schedule following reshuffling due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The inaugural event in 2010 was held in early August. It was then moved to early July in 2012 before landing in the fall for 2019.
"The tournament moving to the fall has not served The Greenbrier as well as the event did in prior years when it was hosted over the July 4th week," organizers from The Greenbrier said. "With kids being back in school, the attractiveness for sponsors and the attendance for the fans dropped significantly."
Recent winners at The Old White TPC in West Virginia include Xander Schauffele, Kevin Na, and Joaquin Niemann.
