Morikawa eyeing Tiger's record for most cuts made to start career
Collin Morikawa shot a second-round 63 at the Charles Schwab Challenge on Friday, securing his place in weekend play for the 21st consecutive PGA Tour event.
Not only does the 23-year-old currently own the Tour's longest active cuts-made streak, but he's yet to miss a pro cut since making his professional debut at the 2019 Canadian Open. With Friday's result, he's now four short of Tiger Woods' record of 25 cuts made to begin a career, and he's well aware of who he's chasing.
"To have that consistency over the past year, especially not having any status last summer, to go out and (be) winning, making the playoffs, it means a lot," Morikawa said, according to Golf Channel's Red Hoggard. "And obviously the goal is to reach Tiger, if not beat him."
The No. 44 ranked player in the world is seeking his second PGA Tour win and sits two shots behind 36-hole leader Harold Varner III at Colonial. Morikawa notched his first win at last year's Barracuda Championship in only his sixth start on Tour.
