Garcia: Others 'deserved' to test positive more than Watney
Sergio Garcia felt bad for Nick Watney after his friend was the first player to test positive for COVID-19 on the PGA Tour.
The Spaniard indicated other players might be more deserving of contracting coronavirus instead of Watney because of his reputation.
"I felt terrible for Nick because he's probably one of the nicest guys on Tour," Garcia said on Friday. "Unfortunately, it had to happen to him. There's a lot of other people that probably deserved it a lot more than him, and he's the one that got it."
Garcia pointed out how terrible Watney felt about potentially spreading the virus to other players. The two arrived at the course together on Tuesday and both tested negative.
"Nick is unbelievable. He's a good friend. He was very worried about me. He sent me several texts. I talked to him. He must have said sorry to me probably 25 times. I told him that it's all good."
Due to his close contact with Watney, Garcia was required to get looked at again and tested negative for the second time this week.
