Champ tests positive for COVID-19, withdraws from Travelers
Cameron Champ has withdrawn from the Travelers Championship after becoming the second PGA Tour player to test positive for COVID-19, the Tour announced Tuesday.
Champ's result came during the pre-tournament screening process, which every player undergoes prior to being given full access to the tournament's facilities.
The 25-year-old, who isn't showing symptoms, didn't play at the RBC Heritage last week, but he competed in the Charles Schwab Challenge two weeks ago.
“I feel great physically and I was obviously surprised and disappointed to learn of the test result,” said Champ. “It’s important now to take the necessary steps and measures to protect others, including my loved ones.”
Champ will now self-isolate for two weeks in Cromwell, Connecticut.
The PGA Tour is expected to release full testing results for the Travelers Championship upon the completion of the pre-tournament process on Wednesday.
At last week's RBC Heritage, Nick Watney became the first PGA Tour player to test positive for the coronavirus.
