Tiger shoots 76 to cap week at Muirfield: 'Nice to get my feet wet'
Tiger Woods shot a final-round 76 at the Memorial Tournament to close his first PGA Tour start in five months at 6-over par.
While the score might not look pretty, Woods is taking the positives out of a tough week at Muirfield Village.
"It was nice to get my feet wet and compete and play again," Tiger said. "Tough, tough conditions to start out my first week back, Thursday and Sunday. But it was good to get the feel and the flow of competing again."
The 44-year-old made three birdies in his closing round - one of them coming at the difficult par-3 16th - to end the week outside of the top 40.
Tiger's irons were locked in for most of the week, ranking 14th in strokes gained: approach at the end of his fourth round. He struggled with the flatstick, though.
"I think I need to work on my putting a bit and clean that up," he said. "But as far as my swing, it felt good. I was able to hit good shots. Friday was a bit off physically, but overall for my first week back, it was a lot, a lot of positives."
Woods' upcoming schedule remains unknown but said he will be back "soon."
The PGA Championship at TPC Harding Park begins Aug. 6 in San Francisco. The WGC-FedEx St. Jude will be played the week prior.
