The PGA Tour makes its way to Minnesota this week for the second edition of the 3M Open.

With most of the game's biggest stars taking the tournament off to prepare for the upcoming PGA Championship in two weeks' time, the field set to compete for the $1.188-million dollar prize is the weakest since the PGA Tour restarted its season in June.

When: July 23-26
Where: TPC Twin Cities, Blaine, Minnesota

The field

Dustin Johnson and Brooks Koepka headline the 156-man group in Minnesota this week. The rest of the competitors do not offer much star power with Tony Finau, Tommy Fleetwood, and Paul Casey rounding out the remaining notables inside the top 30 of the world ranking.

With the WGC-FedEx St. Jude next week and the PGA Championship the following tournament, the biggest names in golf are skipping the event at TPC Twin Cities to gear up for the most important stretch since play resumed in June.

The course

TPC Twin Cities is a 7,431-yard, par-71 course designed by Arnold Palmer. The venue features a ton of water, with hazards in play on 15 holes. The course appears to favor ball-strikers over those who rely on short game and putting to score well.

Here's an overhead glimpse of the course and its resemblance to Florida courses.

Past winners

Matthew Wolff won the inaugural 3M Open last year in dramatic fashion over Bryson DeChambeau and Collin Morikawa. The then-20-year-old drilled an eagle putt on the final hole to claim a one-stroke victory for his first PGA Tour title.
