Tiger to skip WGC-FedEx St. Jude in preparation for PGA Championship
Tiger Woods will skip next week's WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational in preparation for the PGA Championship, he announced on Friday.
"Disappointed to miss the WGC-FedEx St. Jude," Tiger said. "But (I'm) doing what I think is best to prepare me for the PGA Championship and upcoming FedEx Cup Playoffs."
Tiger is an eight-time winner of the WGC Invitational, but all of those victories came at Firestone Country Club prior to the event's relocation to TPC Southwind in Memphis for the 2018 season.
Woods made his return to the PGA Tour after a five-month break last week at the Memorial Tournament. He finished in a tie for 40th while struggling with back stiffness during Round 2.
His next start will be at TPC Harding Park for the first major championship of 2020. Woods won the 2005 WGC-American Express Championship at the San Francisco venue in a playoff over John Daly.
The PGA Championship begins Aug. 6.
