Tiger kicks off postseason with 3-under 68 at TPC Boston
Tiger Woods got his postseason run started on the right foot by carding a 3-under 68 in Round 1 of The Northern Trust.
However, it took a while for the 44-year-old to get going at TPC Boston. Woods played his first eight holes at 1-over before finding his groove as he made the turn.
After birdieing the par-5 18th - his ninth hole - Woods added four more circles to his card before bogeying his last hole, finishing the day four shots off the clubhouse lead held by Harris English.
Tiger struggled a bit with the driver, losing over a stroke off the tee, but relied on some strong iron play and a hot putter to put him inside the top 20 at the end of his day.
Woods started the week ranked 49th in the FedEx Cup standings. He knows he will need solid results both this week and at the BMW Championship next week to move inside the top 30 and advance to the Tour Championship, where he won in 2018.
"I've got to get to Atlanta first. I'm not in," Woods said after his round. "The top 30 guys who do qualify for East Lake, they're going to play a hefty load here."
Woods is committed to next week's event at Olympia Fields near Chicago. If he qualifies for East Lake, he will play three straight weeks for the first time since the 2018 FedEx Cup Playoffs.
