Berger 'baffled' he's still not in 2020 Masters field
Daniel Berger is one of the hottest golfers on the planet, but, as it stands right now, he won't be participating in the 2020 Masters in November.
When the Masters field was set in March, the top 50 on the Official World Golf Ranking - which was frozen due to the COVID-19 pandemic - were added to the field. Berger was 107th when play was halted.
He's since won the Charles Schwab Challenge and added two other top-three results to climb to No. 18 in the world.
"I'm not sure what else I have to do at this point to get into Augusta," Berger said after shooting 5-under in Round 1 of The Northern Trust.
He added: "I think I'm ranked 18 in the world and I'm seventh in the FedExCup, so I'm a little baffled that I haven't had more opportunity to at least hear from some of the guys over there or have a chance, obviously."
Berger's victory will grant him a spot in the 2021 edition set for its normal slot next April since the win came after the 2020 Masters field was finalized.
"The field was set, but I don't know, I feel like, at this point, I don't know if I could say I deserve a spot, but I feel like I'm playing well enough to earn a spot into the Masters," he said.
Berger had also not qualified for the 2020 U.S. Open in September but his runner-up result at the WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational punched his ticket to Winged Foot.
