Johnson unfazed by Koepka's comments: 'He can think whatever he wants'
Dustin Johnson is not going to let Brooks Koepka's words get to him.
Koepka took a shot at Johnson's lack of major championship titles while the latter held the 54-hole lead at the PGA Championship. Koepka, who was trailing Johnson by two strokes at the time, said he liked his chances going into the final round because Johnson has "only won one" major.
"It doesn't matter," Johnson said Thursday in response to Koepka's remarks. "It doesn't bother me. He can think whatever he wants."
Johnson went on to shoot a 68 in the final round at TPC Harding Park, though Collin Morikawa won the event. Koepka posted a 74 to fall outside the top 25.
The jab at Johnson came as a surprise since it was believed that the two were friendly away from the course. However, Koepka recently shut down that narrative, saying the media likes to "overplay a lot of things."
Johnson fired a 67 in Round 1 of The Northern Trust to sit three strokes off the pace. Koepka withdrew prior to the event due to a lingering knee injury to end his winless 2019-20 season.
