Kisner focuses on 'bank account,' high finish when DJ is hot
Kevin Kisner knew his chances of catching Dustin Johnson on Sunday at The Northern Trust were next to impossible, as he trailed by 10 going into the final round.
So instead of paying attention to what Johnson was doing, Kisner focused on making his paycheck as large as possible.
"I've been watching it for 25 years," Kisner said of Johnson's ability to dominate. "I'm pretty accustomed to it. When he's on, I just step to the side and try to add on to my bank account."
And he did exactly that. Kisner fired a final-round 66 to climb into a tie for fourth and earn a $427,500 check.
Kisner finished the week at 17-under par, which would be good enough to win a lot of tournaments. However, he came up 13 shots shy of Johnson.
"He can absolutely dismantle a golf course when he's on and lead the field in putting," Kisner said of his fellow South Carolina native. Kisner added that with Johnson also hitting his drives straight, he's "pretty much unstoppable."
